Hyundai Engineering & Construction Signs Housing Development Agreement in New Zealand, Plans to Build Korean-style Apartments
Hyundai Engineering & Construction has launched a housing development project in New Zealand in collaboration with the New Zealand Housing Corporation (KO). The company recently signed a comprehensive agreement with the Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND) and KO. The agreement aims to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries and contribute to solving housing issues through sustainable urban development.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction plans to address the housing supply shortage in New Zealand by incorporating eco-friendly and smart technologies into housing designs. With housing demand surging, particularly in major cities like Auckland, the government is pushing policies to accelerate housing construction. As a result, Hyundai Engineering & Construction will enter the market by developing various housing types, including mid-rise apartments.
As part of the agreement, Hyundai will design apartments that reflect Korean-style living culture, incorporating differentiated eco-friendly and smart technologies such as electric vehicle charging stations, solar panels, and specialized community facilities. The project will receive financial and technical support, with KIND working on collaboration and financial plans, and KO assisting with permits and providing business-related data.
A Hyundai Engineering & Construction official stated, “This agreement will serve as a pivotal point in fostering urban development cooperation between Korea and New Zealand,” adding, “We aim to contribute to solving the housing issues in both countries through sustainable urban development.”

현대건설이 뉴질랜드 주택공사와 협력하여 현지 주택개발 사업에 착수한다. 현대건설은 한국해외인프라도시개발지원공사(KIND)와 뉴질랜드 주택공사인 카잉가오라(KO)와 최근 협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 이번 협약은 양국 간의 전략적 협력 관계를 강화하고, 지속 가능한 도시 개발을 통해 양국의 주택 문제 해결에 기여하기 위한 차원에서 이루어졌다.
현대건설은 뉴질랜드의 주택 수요가 공급을 초과하는 상황을 해결하기 위해 친환경적이고 스마트한 기술을 접목한 주택을 제안할 계획이다. 특히, 오클랜드를 비롯한 대도시를 중심으로 주택 수요가 급증하고 있어 정부는 주택 건설을 촉진하는 정책을 추진 중이다. 이에 따라 현대건설은 중층 아파트를 포함한 다양한 주택 형태 개발을 통해 시장에 진입할 예정이다.
이번 협약에 따라 현대건설은 한국식 주거문화를 반영한 아파트를 설계하고, 전기차 충전소, 태양광 패널, 주민 공용시설 등 차별화된 친환경 및 스마트 기술을 적용해 새로운 주거 환경을 조성할 예정이다. 또한, 재정적·기술적 지원을 통해 프로젝트를 진행하며, KIND는 협력과 금융 계획을 수립하고, KO는 인허가 절차 및 사업 관련 데이터를 제공할 예정이다.
현대건설 관계자는 “이번 협약이 한국과 뉴질랜드 간 도시개발 협력의 중요한 전환점을 마련할 것”이라며 “지속 가능한 도시 개발을 통해 양국의 주택 문제 해결에 기여할 것”이라고 말했다.
