1.5 Million New Zealanders to Receive Increased Cost of Living Support from April 1
The New Zealand government will raise regular cost-of-living support payments for approximately 1.5 million citizens starting April 1. This adjustment is part of the government’s annual cost-of-living recalibration, with most payments distributed by the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) set to increase by 2–3%.
According to the government, the largest beneficiaries of this increase will be the 933,000 recipients of New Zealand Superannuation (NZ Super) and 4,900 veterans’ pension recipients, who are expected to receive an approximate 3% boost in payments.
Additionally, the increase will benefit the following groups:

409,300 individuals receiving Jobseeker Support or Sole Parent Support

47,400 students receiving student allowances

70,000 individuals receiving supplementary assistance without major benefits
The adjustments are based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increase of 2.22% recorded through December 2024. However, pension increases are determined by both inflation and wage growth, leading to a slightly higher adjustment.
The government emphasizes that this measure aims to alleviate financial pressures and ensure that New Zealanders can maintain stability amid economic challenges.

뉴질랜드 정부가 생활비 부담 완화를 위해 4월 1일부터 약 150만 명의 국민에게 지급되는 정기 지원금을 인상한다. 이번 조치는 정부의 연례 생활비 조정 정책의 일환으로, 사회개발부(MSD)에서 지급하는 대부분의 지원금이 2~3% 정도 오를 예정이다.
정부에 따르면, 가장 큰 혜택을 받는 계층은 뉴질랜드 연금(NZ Super) 수급자 93만 3천 명과 재향군인 연금 수급자 4,900명으로, 이들은 약 3%의 인상 혜택을 받게 된다.
이 외에도 지원금 인상 대상자는 다음과 같다.
- 구직자 지원금 및 한 부모 지원금을 받는 40만 9,300명
- 학생수당을 지급받는 4만 7,400명
- 주요 혜택을 받지 않지만 추가 지원을 받는 7만 명
이번 지급액 조정은 2024년 12월까지의 소비자물가지수(CPI) 상승률인 2.22%를 반영해 결정됐다. 연금의 경우, 인플레이션뿐만 아니라 임금 성장률까지 고려하여 책정되었기 때문에 인상 폭이 상대적으로 더 크다.
정부는 이번 조치를 통해 생활비 부담을 완화하고, 국민들이 보다 안정적인 경제 환경 속에서 생활할 수 있도록 지원하겠다는 방침이다.
